From the age of 10, he grew up ears-deep in his father’s record collection and began playing in bands, producing tracks, and creating film scores, and studying trumpet.

Nowadays, And.ID is known for his one-man ensemble of techno, house, jazz, and bossa nova music which he harnesses for Mobilee Records. Please enjoy the following interview I recorded with the gentleman in anticipation of his visit to the states.

Join him, Anja Schneider, and Ralf Kollmann on September 11, 2010 to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the record label as they bring Hi-Five Mobilee World Tour to Los Angeles @ The Ecco in Hollywood. Click here for event information & ticket sales

[ August 29, 2010; 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. ] Culprit puts on their 15th rooftop rodeo at the Standard hotel in Downtown Los Angeles with Adultnapper, Geddes, Willis Haltom, and of course, the trio in charge -> DROOG!

We have added an extra Culprit Sessions date at the end of August and invited three special guests for this un-official Burning Man send-off party. All three are superb Djs and are a part of our extended global clan.

Adultnapper aka Francis Harris is a NYC-based veteran of the underground scene, with 15 years of DJing and music-making under his belt. Francis has won worldwide respect with his uncompromising and impeccable taste that manifests itself in prolific production output for everyone from Poker Flat to Crosstown Rebels and a non-stop global touring schedule.

Outside of solo efforts, Adultnapper has also formed a highly potent and mischievous duet with the one and only Mr. C – Sycophant Slags. They had a hit single on Poker Flat this year, with “Keep Off”

Francis is joining a rapidly expanding Culprit family with an excellent upcoming EP, featuring another Los Angeleno, Big Bully on vocals. The EP is coming out in a few weeks so keep your ears peeled.

Stuart Geddes is one of the lynchpins of a buzzing London scene: in the last few years he has really made a mark with famous Mulletover underground events that have become one of the most celebrated parties in London. An established producer and an excellent DJ, Geddes has formed Murmur record label in 2008 and has quickly turned it into a hugely admired outfit. Geddes will be making his LA debut.

Along with Droog, we welcome Willis Haltom of Asylum (Hawaii) on opening duties. A terrific Dj and a promoter of a one of the best small parties in the US, Willis is a pefect addition to a great line-up

mobilee records

mobilee records was launched in 2005 and quickly established itself as one of the brightest new stars in Berlin’s glittering galaxy of electronic music labels, producers and DJs. Founded and owned by Anja Schneider and Ralf Kollmann, the label boasts a sound that is simultaneously familiar and innovative. Based on the timeworn structures of house and techno, mobilee’s approach is a triple threat: its records reference vintage dancefloor minimalism, trade ideas with like-minded contemporaries, and suggest surprising new directions for a genre that has weathered both hype and backlash—yet keeps on clicking.

Hi Five mobilee! This summer the mobilee team are not just celebrating five successful years of the label, but also the fact that they are still loving what they do and there is a lot more to come! To mark the occasion with something special, they are organising a world tour across all continents, with a three-day Sonar extravaganza to get the ball rolling. They are also releasing a compilation featuring 16 exclusive tracks from mobilee artists and friends, and to accompany the album, there is a three part 250 copies limited edition vinyl series with selected tracks.

More than any particular stylistic hallmark, surprise is the defining characteristic of mobilee’s releases: rhythm becomes a game while drumbeats and acidic squiggles serve as playing chips, puzzle pieces, and rolling dice. mobilee’s palette is broad (and bright: you won’t find better sounding records, from the deepest sub-bass to the most crystalline highs), but no matter the sound source—from grinding machines to digital glitches—the groove is paramount. mobilee’s dubby, laid-back cuts are as quietly compelling as its anthems are immediate. Strings and rave stabs somersault through the grass; smoky voices throw shadows across the darkest corners of the club. Aspiring to be more than the manufacturer of simple DJ tools, mobilee publishes tracks full of finely turned hooks and hypnotic depths, the stuff of today’s charts and tomorrow’s classics.

“50 Bands to See Before You Die.” – Q Magazine

In the music world, there are some bands that are considered the pillars of each genre. In the Electronic Dance Music World, there’s Chemical Brothers, Underworld, there’s Depeche Mode, and another one is ORBITAL.

From their 1st release in 1989 of “Chime” to the 1991 hit “Halycon” to “Time Becomes”, the “Box”, “Satan”, “Beached” and more, ORBITAL‘s discography is like a historical account of what’s good in Dance music.

On top of their productions, their live sets are considered by such respected critics from Q Magazine as incomparable, and they have been always been included as part of one the, regardless of genre, “50 Bands to See Before You Die.“

Fresh from their gig at Coachella 2010, PHIL HARTNOLL of ORBITAL has decided to go INCOGNITO with a Technoldskoolacidbreaks set thats guaranteed to be LEGENDARY.

Time to go INCOGNITO. Because this where amazing cutting edge dance music happens.

This week’s radio show took on a healthy dose of variety and wonderweird as I wanted to make sure everyone had access to these need-to-know mojo-makers:

[audio:http://charlie.la/mixes/Charles%20Fox%20-%20Electronic%20Frequencies%20-%202010-05-19.mp3]
Download the Mix

Danny Tenaglia - one of my all time favorite housecats and inspirations – I figured I dig up something not everybody has heard with a good glimpse at an oldschool album of his you need to buy from 1995: Mix This Pussy 2 – Can Your Pussy Do the Dog?
Massive Attack - This shouldn’t be news to anybody after 20 years of their brilliance, but, ya need-to-know. I’ve also uploaded some of the video I took at their concert May 18th at the Wiltern. Check it out!

[tubepress mode="playlist" playlistValue="560147B6C70848D8"]

And then with thanks and gratitude to Incognito I’m lucky to see Martin Eyerer and Djuma Soundsystem tonight at their 3 year anniversary. Let me share some of their sounds with you and get you out to their event(s). They bring LA some of the world’s best tech house for sure and tonight’s no exception. Here’s a little bit on those two:

Martin Eyerer, aka Headhunter, Licht Und Kraft, Mart Van Straaten, Royal Flash, Spencer & Davis, is a true musician and is he is signed up to Systematic, Audiomatique, Great Stuff, Kickboxer and on English big names like Renaissance or i/o records, on top of being the label head of Session Deluxe and Kling Klong, where he has released artists like Koletzki, Namito, Oliver Klein, Robert Babicz and more. His high-end studio meets the highest requirements and has become an interdisciplinary interface for mastering (whether it is Hip Hop, Pop or Electronic) and he is also co-producing several mainstream acts (Eyerer e.g.became a gold record in UK). On top of all this, the Tech-House Posse around him like Gui Boratto, Oliver Koletzki, Toni Rios, Stephan Hinz, Namito, Chopstick, Oliver Klein or Robert Babicz come to ‘his house’ to jam. He is an innovator and leader of the groovy tech house scene, and INCOGNITO is proud to deliver his Exclusive 1st LA Appearance on this special night.

Djuma Soundsystem is a Scandinavian Duo composed of Lars Bjarno Jensen & Mikkas Skulstad. For the EDM World, they became famous out of nowhere by producing the modern classic and the best selling track of Beatport ever “Les Djinns”. Since then, they have never looked back and have come out with hits like “Zillion Lights (Get Physical)”, “This Sound (Brut)”, “Jaded (Toolroom)”, “Bipolar (Rebirth) and more, as well as remixing for Kaskade, Antix, Def Jagur, Philip Cohen Solal (Gotan Project). Or in other words, their music continues to shine fiercely on dancefloors all over the globe, with no signs of dropping off. So in their 2nd LA Appearance, and their 1st LA gig on a weekend, INCOGNITO is honored to have this duo go INCOGNITO and show LA denizens how its supposed to be done.

You’re probably lathered in eclectic wtfbbq sauce by now, let it download, marinate and please you.
